Gérard
Soff

Painter of love, form and transcendence.

The Vision

Love as form. Form as eternity.

An intimate exploration of the eternal dialogue between body and soul.

Gérard Soff’s paintings move between sensuality and philosophy, abstraction and figuration, Mediterranean light and Parisian refinement. His work is a continuous meditation on the couple: not only as subject, but as symbol — the meeting point between desire, spirit and human destiny.

“Love and art go hand in hand. It is the deepest thing you can express.”

Biography

A Life Between Paris, Scandinavia and the Mediterranean

Gérard Soff was born in Paris on 10 May 1938. He spent his childhood in Quimper, in Brittany, an evocative town whose atmosphere remained deeply engraved in his memory and artistic sensitivity.

In 1956, he began his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts under the guidance of the young and renowned artist Jean Le Merdy, whose belief that “in a picture, graphic resolution is essential” left a lasting mark on Soff’s approach to composition and form.

In 1958, Soff travelled to Bizerte, Tunisia, where he painted large frescoes for the French Naval Forces, depicting scenes of Parisian cabarets just before Tunisian independence. This African séjour became an exotic, powerful and unforgettable experience.

At the age of twenty-three, Soff moved to Paris, where he met his future wife, Helle Nordfeld Hansen from Denmark. For him, Paris was the Louvre, the Musée du Jeu de Paume, Boulevard Saint-Germain, concerts and theatre — the right place for an artist.

Three years later, he moved with his wife to Copenhagen, where their first son, Auriak, was born. In the quiet and romantic Danish atmosphere, far from Paris and the restless cradle of modern art, Soff cultivated his painting and began developing abstract subjects.

In 1967, he arrived with his family on Madeira, then moved to Mallorca, where he found his mature style. The couple became the central subject of his art: a philosophical symbol of humanity, an anticipation of paradise, and a space where the woman appears as the seduction of the soul.

From then on, Soff’s paintings were exhibited, commercialized and sought after by American and Scandinavian collectors. Palma became one of his richest artistic periods, surrounded by critics, collectors, social events and the cultural atmosphere of the Spanish high society.

Later, eager for new artistic experiences, Soff moved to Nice and worked with the international art dealer Dr. Luizi. Established on the French Riviera, he travelled widely and eventually chose Sardinia, continuing to paint for collectors within the golden triangle of Porto Cervo, Palma de Mallorca and Monte Carlo.
